Welcome to Sukagawa City's Home-Page!!
On April 1st,2005,the new Sukagawa city was born. As largescale
decentralization proceeds,Sukagawa city merged with Naganuma town and
Iwase village. Hereby conducting more active commerce to satisfy the
needs of the diversified civillian population. Furthermore,to move
forward positively with high quality administrative services, through
the foundation of administrative and financial bases. The population of
new Sukagawa city is now more than 80,000 people.
Our new city is blessed with rich natural surroundings,and also well
located in terms of transportation. There is excellent accessibility to
metropolitan areas and Sendai city by means of Tohoku expressway,Route
4,JR Tohoku super express bullet train lines. Moreover,"Fukushima air
port",the only airport in Fukushima prefecture,is located in Sukagawa
city.With the improvement of high speed transportation networks,we are
connected to location not only in Japan,but also with foreign countries.
Exchange of materials and information have begun and this has produced
new culturel understanding that are highly regarded among many fields.
Our city population growth is the highest in this prefecture.
Now making the most of our merged cities,each region's
individuality,history,traditional culture,natural surroundings and
valuable resources,we are engaged in making our city motto "Realizing
Citizen's Happiness."
This handbook introduces "New Sukagawa city" based on developments
through its long history and traditions. As mayor of Sukagawa city,I
hope this compilation will help visitors to understand the formation of
our city and its proud heritage.
