City where people and nature are one
Sukagawa City is located near the center of Fukushima Prefecture.
It extends east and west across the route 4, and the urban districts
expand to a hilly terrain which extends northeast.
Sukagawa City has commanding views of the Nasu mountain range
in the western area and the mountain ranges of the Abukuma region
in the eastern area. The Abukuma River and the Shakado River run
through the center of Sukagawa City.
The climate is mild and the land is fertile here. Sukagawa has
developed as a commercial city where supplies were gathered and
distributed as abundant crops were harvested. The central part
of the city is a hub of activity where the homes possess character
and tradition with a refined sense of taste. However, there are
parks for relaxation, and Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples
provide a sense of calmness within the city. Above all, the Sukagawa
Peony Garden is the proudest boast of the citizens.
Human beings and nature are in mild ensemble here in Sukagawa,
"The City of flowers and greenery". All the citizens of Sukagawa
City are buckling to open up a new possibility for our city. The
curtain rose on March 20, 1993. Fukushima Airport was open in
the eastern part of the city, which was long expected by all the
citizens.
With the opening of Fukushima Airport on March 20, 1993 came
the opening of new doors for the city. Sukagawa changed from "The
City of flowers and greenery" to "The Airport City of flowers
and greenery". Sukagawa City aims at the development with a balance
of the whole city, and we are striving to construct an affluent
city where human beings and nature co-exist including the airport
as the core to the city.
